If Private Eye used the phrase "no comment was forthcoming" you'd know they were directing an ironic barb at the person who refused to speak. As it is, I think the phrase they use whenever they've tried unsuccessfully to extract a comment from some nefarious individual or organisation is: "Answer came there none". Brilliant!
